Religious

On April 28th, my friends and I went to Jiming Temple. Jiming Temple is one of the oldest temple in Nanjing. Jiming temple is a place where people come to make themselves more at peace and calm. The Jiming Temple changed in 1958 by a Daochang nun. During the "Cultural Revolution" period, the temple was severely damaged. In 1979, the monk helped to reconstruct the Jiming temple under the leadership of Master Cheng.
Jiming temple is located in the northeastern part of Nanjing City. At the back of Xuanwu lake the Jiming Temple faces Purple Mountain to the east. Behind the Jiming temple there remains a section of palace wall called Taicheng. While at the temple I took part in a prayer session which I thought was very nice. I also tried to talk with one of the nuns, but she just looked at me strangely. She was a little odd looking with a big scar on her neck from what looked like a knife or sword wound. I expected nuns to be a little different than her, but that was the first time I had ever tried talking with a Buddhist nun.

From November 8th to February 7th I went to ''Jufeng Billiard Hall'' to work. I got up at 8:00am and worked for four hours everyday. While working there, I realized that it is not so easy to make money. Although I didn't earn a penny, I learnt a lot about life. If I can't make money by myself, I won't spend a lot money buying things that I want because I now know how hard it is to make money. During my time there, my tasks were to wash the billiard balls, brush the tables and polish the pool cues.

On May 1st, I went to Xuanwu Lake. There were a variety of trees in an exhibition showing the lush colors of the trees and leaves. Many people grew different kinds of trees and on some of the trees, the branches were spiriling upwards. It looked like the trees were dancing on the flowerpots which was pretty cool. On another note, in one area beside the lake there was a three-dimensional painting on the ground. I think three-dimensional paintings are very cool. Look at the picture beside, it looks like the real thing. The boy is sitting on a peak over a river. This exhibition has really opened my eyes.

My volunteer experience

On March 9th we went to Beijing Dong Lu Primary School to teach some students. The student I taught is the girl in the photo (above right). She was a quiet and friendly girl and also very nice. I taught her how to play card games called Uno and Poker. As well, I tought her the different colors of cards along with the various suits spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs. She was a very clever girl who learned very quickly so I was not surprised to learn that she is the leader of her class. We played a lot of games. They were a lot of fun and everyone was happy. I had an excellent and special experience. I wish I could be a volunteer at a primary school again soon.

Foreign customs

On March 15th, my family and I went to ''Tacos''. It's name translates to a Spanish pancake. We had a good time eating dinner there, but the waiter's attitude wasn't so good... Anyway the food was delicious, especially the tacos, it has a crisp pancake and tasty pate. We orderd pizza, baked rice and tacos. I think tacos are the most delicious kind of food at this restaurant.

Art time

On Saturday March 14th , I went with a friend to The People's Great Hall (Ren Min Da Hui Tang), it is an art museum in Nanjing . I saw many calligraphy pieces in many different styles hung on the wall. The writing is beautiful and neat but some writing is very dificult to understand. I think that it is so difficult to read because it's a certain style of calligraphy . I think it's called Oracle . I've been told that Oracle is an old font in China . I tried my best to read this poem and tried to understand what it meant but I just couldn't. I learnt a lot about this display . There were many beautiful displays, most of which were ancient. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and I would like to go back again someday.

Enrich the life in physical

On February 6th , I went to ''White Horse Golf Club's" driving range to play golf . This was the first time I played golf . I think that playing golf is a lot of fun. At first, I couldn't hit the ball and when I missed I spun around in circles. That made me feel upset . I guess my meaning is that I can't play golf very well, and in the future and I will lose every match . On this day I played for six hours . I found more and more fun in golf . After about six hours of practice I made a lot of progress. I can not only hit the ball, but also can let the ball fly farther . Although I feel very tired , I also learned how to play golf.

Happy time in the club

Every saturday I go to the dancing club at school. In the dancing club, we learn every dance step that we want . There are many members in the dancing club so we can teach or learn from each other and from new members. A boy named ONLY, who is the leader of the dancing club, told me to go to teach some new members . I feel butterflies in my stomach because I can not dance very well , I just know the basic steps so I try my best to teach the new members.

My volunteer experience

In December, I went to ''Hou Zai Men'' . There is a school not far from there in an alley.
There are many children. My job was teach them how to do homework and what they can help each other with. They asked me questions that they didn't understand, and when I helped them, I was also reviewing for myself one more time .
I found that one does not necessarily have to be paid in return, they can also be very delighted . This is a happy thing and good experience .When I saw them smile after they understood the problems, they seemed to gain confidence. Because I have this ability, I am proud I can help them.

The Date In Secco

On Thursday December 18, 2008 I went to Secco. I am very happy today . I had been looking forward to this meal for a long time . We have two groups in our class. One is Germany and the other is Italy. I chose Germany. We got there at 6:30pm. There were just three meals on the menu because when we were there it was there is was almost Christmas time . Before we ate dinner, the grade 12 students talked with us. We talked about school in Canada . I learnt more knowledge of Canada . During the dinner , I was very.

Statue

Thursday December 4th, 2008. This morning , we went to Nanjing University . We went to take a look at and find out more about Wu Weishan's sculpture . There were many sculptures. There were Kongzi and many shapes I couldn't understand. The statues all looked like real people. Every statue looked very vivid and he had done a statue which name is called "Sleeping Baby". I liked this artwork because when I saw Sleeping Baby, I felt everything is peaceful, everything is quiet. I think there will be many people who like the Sleeping Baby because everyone tole me that if they saw the Sleeping Baby, they will have the same feel as me.
